Keynote abstract: Kent Beck

Many of the dysfunctional patterns of software development can be traced directly back to Fred Taylor and Scientific Management. Buried beneath the practices is the paradigm that software development is a manufacturing process.

To break through, we must adopt a new paradigm, and new practices to go with it. Extreme Programming proposes "conversation" as the new paradigm, and suggests a set of practices to turn software development into a dynamic conversation between business and technology.'
