This year, the Workshop on Education and Training of the TOOLS Conference (Technology of Object-Oriented Language and Systems) focused on the relationship between industry and academia, concentrating on two loosely-related themes:

• in educating and training the next generation of software engineers, what should academia do and what should industry do?
• how can industry and academia further exploit the Internet for education and training?
