Symposium on Teaching
Object Technology

Sunday, August 1, 1999
9:00 - 17:00

Symposium co-Chairs:
Richard Mitchell, University of Brighton, UK
& Jim McKim, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA

The theme of this year's Symposium is Using Information Technology to Teach Object Technology. In this context we define IT very broadly. In particular we would welcome the participant who has something to say about using, say, mailing lists, to perfection in a small class, as well as the participant who has taught large numbers of students, combining synchronous and asynchronous means of delivery.

While successful experience reports are always helpful, we hope people will be willing to share their _unsuccessful_ and mixed experiences as well. In many ways these can be the most important contributions. We are also interested in hearing from people who have not been able to use much technology in their teaching, but want to. Tell us your dreams! Finally we want to hear what you think the future will bring. How will IT affect the way we teach our Object Oriented courses in the near, midrange and far futures?

The structure for the symposium will be to have speakers present their position papers in the morning, followed by a relatively free form discussion in the afternoon. We hope to use the papers as a jumping off point for the discussion, but focus on how we can help each other use IT to teach OT better.

In submitting your paper, please include:

  • your name
  • affiliation
  • contact information

We expect papers to range in size from two pages for a simple position paper, to 10 pages for a full article.

Please send your submissions to stot@tools.com.
